2014 SMUHA Jarl's Squad Day
The 2014 SMUHA Jarl's Squad day began with the muster and breakfast at Gulberwick Hall in the early hours. The 2013 Jarl Dale
Smith welcomed the 2014 Jarl Keith Lobban & his squad & then handed over to David Anderson who made the introductory
speeches for the squad. After breakfast the squad visited the Anderson High School ASN Departmant in Lerwick, the Shetland
Islands Council Housing Department in Lerwick and the Sound Primary School in Lerwick. A march from Lower Hillside,
Gulberwick to the Gulberwick Hall was then scheduled, but poor weather meant this was cancelled with the squad visiting the
Gulberwick Hall where the Bill was on display. From there the squad visited the Sandwick Junior High School and the
Cunningsburgh Primary School.
After departing the Cunningsburgh School it was decided to take the official 'Galley Photos' in the shelter of the old
Cunningsburgh shop & garage as the weather had deteriorated further to such an extent that the galley was being damaged by
the wind as it was being taken around the schools. After this the galley was taken back to the galley shed for repairs. The squad
then went to the Sumburgh Hotel for lunch, after which they visited the Dunrossness Primary School followed by the Overtonlea
Care Home at Levenwick. They then departed for a rest period at Levenwick Hall until the evening.
At the Schools, Halls, and the Overtonlea Care Centre the Jarl's Squad sang the Up Helly Aa Song and the Jarl Keith Lobban
presented a 2014 SMUHA plaque to thank them for their hospitality and to commemorate the event.
