2013 SMUHA Jarl's Squad Day
The 2013 SMUHA Jarl's Squad day began with the muster and breakfast at the Sandwick Social Club in the early hours. The
2012 Jarl Kevin Adamson welcomed the 2013 Jarl Dale Smith & his squad & then handed over to Maurice Smith who made the
introductory speeches for the squad. Neville Martin accepted a Jarls Squad shield on behalf of the Social Club & also presented
Dale Smith with a commemorative hip flask. Both Maurice & Neville were also presented with a 2013 SMUHA Commemorative
plaque. This was followed by visits to the Anderson High School ASN Departmant in Lerwick, Sound Primary School in Lerwick,
Cunningsburgh Primary School and Sandwick Junior High School. After visiting the Sandwick School the squad marched to the
Sandwick Bake Shop where the Bill was on display. Some of the squad then made a visit to the Laurence Odie Knitwear Factory
in Hoswick before joining the rest of the squad at the Sumburgh Hotel for lunch and posing for official Galley photos. The Galley
accompanied the Jarl's Squad to all the morning visits.
After lunch the Jarl's Squad visited Dunrossness Primary School, followed by the Overtonlea Care Centre at Levenwick. After this
the Jarl's Squad departed for tea at Levenwick Hall where they remained until the muster for the evening procession and burning.
At the Schools, Sandwick Bake Shop, the Laurence Odie Knitwear Factory, and the Overtonlea Care Centre the Jarl's Squad
sang the Up Helly Aa Song and the Jarl Dale Smith presented a 2013 SMUHA plaque to thank them for their hospitality and to
