2012 SMUHA - After the Festival
In the morning after the SMUHA some of the Committee went to the burning site to clean up the beach and remove the
launching trailer and remains of the galley. The procession route was also walked to ensure no debris remained and a clean-up
was undertaken. Unlike 2011 there was still quite a lot left of the 2012 galley.

In the afternoon following the SMUHA the Sandwick Social Club hosted a Jazz session with the Mousa Stompers playing from around 2:30pm. The Jarl's
Squad arrived in the late afternoon and in the early evening the Bill Head was delivered to the Jarl by the torch boys and the next 4 Guizer Jarl's (each
taking a corner), who had carried it from the Torch Shed near the Sandwick School.
There was no Jarl's Squad haircut and beard trim at the Helpers Night during the evening of Saturday 24th March at the Cunningsburgh Hall as the Jarl &
some of his squad are visiting schools in the Aberdeen area during the summer & wanted to remain hairy for the event! The Gordon Tulloch band were
playing at the Helpers Night. Torches were lit outside the hall and during the evening the Jarl presented commemorative plaques to helpers & the now annual
SMUHA raffle was drawn.
What remained of the galley was cut up, burned & the remains disposed of.

Kevin Adamson's hair was cut on the 8th June and donated to the Little Princess Trust - a charity to provide real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss. Hair
for the wigs has to be more than 7” in length and tied into a plait(s) or pony-tail(s), secured at both the root end and the tip end before cutting & sending to the
charity. Irene Smith kindly volunteered to perform the cutting, assisted by Kevins wife Alix - all photos by Dale Smith.
Members of the Jarl's Squad attended the 2012 Unst Carnival at Baltasound on the 20th July. The muster was at the Uyeasound Galley Shed with the
