2010 South Mainland Up Helly Aa
The 2010 (and first ever) SMUHA took place on Friday 12th March 2010. The Guizer Jarl was David 'Boof' Smith from Maywick representing Aleksandur Leifsson of Vinland. The Jarls squad comprised 23 members including 6 women and 2 standard bearers. The galley was named Skíðvlaðnir - the original was a mythical ship built by dwarves.

During the day the Jarls Squad, accompanied by the Galley, visited the Anderson High School in Lerwick, the Sound School in Lerwick, Cunningsburgh School, Sandwick School, Bigton Stores (where the Bill was on display), the Sumburgh Hotel, Dunrossness School and the Overtonlea Care Centre at Levenwick.

The evening torchlit procession of 328 guizers took place through Bigton down to St. Ninian's Isle Beach where the galley was burnt floating on the sea at St. Ninian's Isle Ayre. A firework display followed the burning. The 22 squads taking part in the SMUHA then dispersed to perform their acts in the Gulberwick Hall, Cunningsburgh Hall, Sandwick Social Club, Bigton Hall and the Ness Boating Club. All the squads performed in all the halls until the early hours. The Hop night was the following day on Saturday 13th March at the Cunningsburgh Hall.
